What defines a human life? How do individuals and communities understand and withstand suffering and pain? What is good dying? In our time, these are often viewed as academic bioethical concerns. In reality, they are essential human questions that all of us ultimately wrestle with. This four-week course, co-taught by Dr. Quentin Genuis and Dr. Cara Bergen, seeks to address these issues by bringing theology and medical ethics into conversation with each other. We hope to provide attendees with a Christian framework and practical wisdom for these difficult questions and others that arise in modern medicine, including around abortion and MAID.
Quentin Genuis is an Emergency Doctor at St. Paul’s Hospital and the Physician Ethicist for Providence Health Care. Cara Bergen is a Family Physician.
